LO1: analysis of different scripts

Analysis of different scripts.

The script for elf much like the rest of the scripts is written in the font courier with the font size of 12 this is because Courier is a fixed-pitch font, meaning each character and space is exactly the same width. Since standard screenplay format is designed so one page equals approximately one minute of screen time, consistent spacing is important also this is the most convenient way of presenting a script to those who use it as the format and layout is easily readable. Characters such as buddy the elf and papa elf will have a character descriptions in the script such as “The real life Elf and Workshop of the drawing we have just seen. PAPA ELF, 540 years old or roughly 55 in human years, is surrounded by scores of strange and specific tools and some scattered half-built toys“, the whole purpose of character descriptions such as this is to create an image in the readers/actors head while going through the script so they can imagine what the film will look like and gives them more insight into what the final outcome will be. The other people who will benefit from character descriptions in the script would me the makeup, props and costume departments because they need to know what the characters will look like/ what the personalities will be so they can prep and prepare for making those characters come to life.

Unlike other scripts such as TV and film a gaming script differs as it focuses more on the actions and pathways of the game instead of their dialogue like a traditional script would. The reason why game scripts differ is to target a younger audience around the age of 13-14 who would be familiar with the coding used within these computer games. Due to the nature of the game this would be more likely be popular with a male audience due to the action and combat style of the game. A flow chart is used to show the ‘flow’ of a game for e.g. what will happen slight dialogue and descriptions of actions by the in game characters a flow chart shows the basic interactions between the characters and the movements they make, this follows conventions in terms of showing the players which directions they can run and how best to complete the objectives.
